THE VIEW OF THE SIREN IS BLOCKED BY THE RAIL

The iron-rail in this series became an accidental subject due to a system malfunction, resulting in a kind of automatic photography. The rail was filmed on numerous random occasions during 2001/2002 as an effectively involuntary repetition. The variance in lighting conditions was more important (?) than the rail, which was re-painted once during the period of interest. The visual framing was more casual and arbitrary than accurate and the project had a 'no-time' budget, meaning that once or twice it was not possible to reproduce the usual aspect due to unforseen obstructions. For some reason Tim Buckley's 'Song of the Siren' became the mental soundtrack to these visits, and seemingly Kazimierz Dabrowski's challenge of 'what is' & 'what ought to be', as per his 'Multilevel Disintegration', was in danger of becoming a closed loop. Eventually the cycle was broken and reasonable savings on shoe leather achieved. Admittedly the view of the siren would only be blocked if it was a flying one. The eight images here represent a small portion of the total. The photographs are analogue.
