Forgive Me My Small Vandalisms
FORGIVE ME MY SMALL VANDALISMS Documentation of a live project, 92pp. colour.
Location: Barcelona. Project from November 2001 – May 2002
This six month project entailed applying short text phrases to photographs taken in the city. These were photocopied on to self-adhesive paper in quantities of 100. They were then applied in a large variety of locations but principally on the windows of the doors (circa 4320 doors available) of metro trains; an effective way to distribute them over a city-wide catchment area, and with a maximum commuter audience. The main challenge of the many hours spent in this subterranean activity was to apply the stickers at a rate exceeding that by which they were cleaned off. The book documents the project in the form of a day-book including anecdotal material from the many hours spent metroshowing. This activity at times became like an aleatoric performance with responses from members of the public. The stickers, attached under the name Voluntary Unit for Sticker Action, addressed random existential themes, via the entertainment of non-commercial intervention.
