Imagined Not Mute: Monoprints interpreting a series of significant C20 experimental composers.
What if the exploration of new musics existed only in the mind, not as audible sound reaching in from an outside space, but as a linguistic manifestation of sonic ideas, a distillation of the creators thought processes, notions, concepts and abstractions?
Theory and practice, intention and expression; the qualities of ideation and action. Two voices, often at variance with each other, one linguistic, triggering certain flows in the imagination of the beholder, and the other the voice of organised sound, abstract, and assuming the attention of another species of imagination.
In this series of visual artworks (monotype prints, each 560 x 760 mm),the intention is to distil this paradoxical and inspiring quality of sonic theory and practice into a visual equivalent, one which reflects something of the nature of individual idiosyncrasies and evocations but is itself inevitably the product of a particular subjectivity.
